Rocks, bulls and Beckham

The Philadelphia Daily News previews tonight’s U.S. Open Cup qualifier between Philadelphia Union and the New York Red Bulls. You can watch the game live via streaming video courtesy of the Red Bulls at http://nytv.neulion.com/mlsvp/. Just click on the “MLS Live” tab after 7:55 p.m.

I wonder if anyone will bring rocks.

The New York Mets want to own a Major League Soccer franchise in New York City. Uh, maybe we could try filling up the brand new Red Bull Arena first, eh?

David Beckham won’t return to play until at least November, which means he’ll likely miss the entire Major League Soccer season.

Two of MLS’s best players will be out for a while. Houston’s Geoff Cameron tore a ligament in his right knee and is gone for the season. New England’s Shalrie Joseph is taking a leave of absence for unspecified reasons. Both are big losses not just for their teams but for the league as a whole.

U.S. international Charlie Davies is back training at full speed.
