Local lower league recap: Week of May 2

It’s time to take a break from the professionals and take a look at some of the other soccer clubs from the Philadelphia area. Stay up to date with your local clubs with this weekly round up of the action from the lower leagues of men’s soccer in the area.

Today we’ll look back at the results from the week of May 2, which saw Kensington keep their playoff hopes alive and the Spring NPSL season get underway.

Easter Premier Soccer League (EPSL)

  • Sunday, May 8 – Albion SC Delaware 2-3 Kensington SC
  • Sunday, May 8 – Danubia SC 2-2 Salone FC
  • Sunday, May 8 – Philadelphia Heritage SC 4-3 Real Central NJ

Next up:

  • On Sunday, May 15, Salone and Philadelphia Heritage face off at 2 p.m. at John Bartram HS Field in a match with EPSL playoff implications. The top three teams from the Delaware River Conference will make the EPSL playoffs and the third spot is still up for grabs.

United Premier Soccer League (UPSL)

  • Saturday, May 7 – Philadelphia Lone Star 6-0 New York East SC

Next up:

  • On Saturday, May 14, the Stars will travel for an away match against Oyster Bay United. Only a few games remain for the Stars in the UPSL regular season as they look to hold their position of second place in the table. The top tw0 teams in the UPSL American Premier Division will receive first round playoff byes. The top six teams make the playoffs.

NISA Nation

  • No match for Atlantic City FC in NISA Nation this week but they will return to action Sunday, May 15 vs New Jersey Alliance at 5 p.m. at Stockton University Atlantic City.

National Premier Soccer League (NPSL)

The Keystone Conference NPSL season kicked off this week with the NPSL Atlantic City FC squad battling the NPSL Philadelphia Lone Star squad on Sunday, May 8 at John Bartram HS Field. Lone Star took all 3 points in a 4-0 win. Check out the highlights here:

Next up:

  • West Chester United will kick off their NPSL season on Saturday, May 14, against FC Monmouth at 7 p.m. at Kildares Turf Field in West Chester
  • The Philly Soccer Page Local Lower League Recap Game of the Week:
    • Philadelphia Lone Star vs FC Motown
      • Come check out the Stars on Sunday, May 15, at 5 p.m. at John Bartram HS Field as they battle the 2022 US Open Cup darlings, FC Motown.

Final thoughts:

Last night saw a disappointing end the the Philadelphia Union’s U.S. Open Cup bid, but luckily that’s not your only chance to root for a local team in a knockout cup competition (check out the bottom of this recap for a quick refresher).

  • West Chester United was scheduled to play in the Werner Fricker Open Cup Region 1 semi finals on Sunday, May 8, but they advance to the Region 1 final via forfeit.
  • On Sunday May 15, West Chester will play away, at Northern Virginia FC in the National Amateur Cup Region 1 semi finals.
  • Winners of the Regional finals will advance to the national final 4.
