The U-20 USMNT drew with Saudi Arabia 1-1 in a game that saw a whistle-happy ref give far too many cards, including one to Derrick Jones that will keep him out of the US’s next game. The US won their group and are set to take on New Zealand in the first elimination game.

  1. If we are out Bedoya AND Medunjanin AND Jones… we are screwed for Saturday’s match. I guess we would have to start Creavalle and Carroll as D-mids, which would suffocate the offense. (As if the Yankee Stadium pitch doesn’t do that enough already.) I’m hoping maybe Medunjanin can play in that match; he would still have plenty of time to fly out and train for a match on June 9.

Think Carroll is out still with a herniated disk or back spasms or something. If anything, expect Elliott there and Marquez to step into the CB role. Or Yaro if he’s finally ready, which I think I read. Though that maybe at Bethlehem for next week.
      .
Or they do the awful lineup where Bedoya plays there and Alberg and Ilsinho pair at CAM and RM. Either way, the Achilles is exposed. The only silver lining, if there’s a pitch you can withstand a weakened midfield it’s Yankee stadium.

Is that Ken Tribbett’s music that I’m hearing??? After all, he did play in midfield for Steel this weekend.

I would expect to see Najem with Creavalle in central midfield. There’s a reason why they’ve been playing Najem deeper at Steel so he can be ready for this.

  2. I think I also read Yaro ready. If so, He should be slotted in
    “6” or “8”; leave CB’s alone.
