Union win lottery for Chris Agorsor

In 2008, Chris Agorsor was one of the most sought after high school seniors in US soccer.

Now he is the new speed demon on the Union roster.

Philadelphia had a 96.3% chance of landing the striker, and he has trained with the team during their preseason indoor session at YSC Sports.

Agorsor planned on spending a season at Virginia before leaving for Europe, but a major knee injury curtailed his big dreams. He turned down a Generation Adidas contract to pursue an overseas career, but when he came home to Maryland in the winter, John Hackworth contacted him and Agorsor made an immediate connection with Peter Nowak during the preseason. Although Agorsor wanted to sign with the Union, MLS insisted on the lottery and there was a small chance the 5’9″ striker would become property of either Portland or Vancouver.

But he is a Union boy now. And crazy-talented.

Expect mucho minutes for Agorsor in preseason. We shall see if he has fully recovered from serious knee and ankle injuries and can become an offensive creator for the U this year.

  1. I like that the Union are finding youth prospects to add to the arsenal behind their youth prospects. A lot of people seem concerned about the potential departure of Mwanga as soon as he makes a splash, or the speculated moves concerning Le Toux this winter. In two years, a tandem of McInerney and Agorsor would still be a dangerous combo up front though it may lack some size.

Can we find a prospect or two for the backline soon beyond Williams? Or announce a signing of Orozco permanently? Thanks.

  2. Tim, kudos to you. I believe you correctly IDed Agorsor in the comments of an earlier article, or at least noted that there was a high probability that he was an unnamed trialist. Hat tip, sir.

  3. Can we get a video of him racing Levi.

Nice to have some speed on the books.

  4. Great job John Hackworth. This is how we’ll take the MLS. By cell phone, e-mail, and Philadelphia Union gas card.
