Daily news roundup

Some Christmas Eve soccer news for you:

U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra benched on his French team?  Soccer America says so after he sits out again.

The Los Angeles Galaxy sign three Brazilians on loan, SI reports.

The latest on the Red Bulls’ coaching search from The New York Times.

DaMarcus Beasley’s good run might net him a new contract, according to The Sun of Scotland.

The Vancouver Whitecaps set up temporary digs.

More fallout in the English soccer manager in a brothel story, with the Times, the Mail and the Press Gazette focusing on the UK privacy law that kept the manager’s name secret.

Just another difference between different nations’ media: U.S. daily newspapers (the New York Post notwithstanding) probably break this story only if police investigations, litigation, or someone  of moral authority (politician, judge, etc.) are involved. In the U.K., where some daily papers bribe sources for exclusive scoops (forbidden by daily U.S. papers), they wanted it so badly they went to press even without a name due to threat of lawsuit. Either report it or don’t. None of this halfway garbage. Either have the guts to determine your story is correct and of public benefit, or leave it alone.

Forgive the anti-tabloid mini-rant. I’ll hop off the soapbox now.

Merry Christmas, everyone.
