Wrap-up: Real Salt Lake 3-0 Philadelphia Union
At this point in the season, it’s cliched to say that the only thing consistent about the Philadelphia Union is inconsistency. Every game somebody seems to take a step forward while somebody else takes a step back. Kyle Nakazawa got his first start in the midfield while Jack McInerney slotted in next to Moreno up top. Danny Mwanga continued to hold down his spot at left bench.
Preview: Philadelphia Union at Real Salt Lake
The Union travel to Utah to face the defending champs, who have struggled just as much as the Union have. Neither team has played to its potential. The Union could be without three regulars, but they still go in with the chance to steal three points from Real Salt Lake.
Union v Man. Utd. on July 21 at the Linc
Manchester United will play the Union on the second stop of their summer tour of North America. Ticket details are yet to be announced.
Deconstructing the Union mythos
Philadelphia Union need to drop the tough guy act. This is soccer, not hockey or American football. The discipline and beauty of soccer calls for a scalpel as a opposed to the precision of a machete. Aggression is certainly needed but in a highly controlled manner.
