Philadelphia Union lost 2-1 to the Chicago Fire on Saturday in what was one of the most boring displays of soccer put on in a long time. The Fire packed 10 men back and did a poor Italy imitation. Still, there was some bright spots for the Union, and PSP covers them and hands out player ratings.
Philadelphia Union get their first ever road win with a 3-2 win over the Houston Dynamo. Danny Mwanga scores in stoppage time to stun the Dynamo, who were up 2-1 in the second half.
Danny Mwanga drilled home a cannon shot of a goal in injury time to earn the Union a 1-1 draw in an evenly played match today at the Linc. Both goalkeepers put on terrific displays. We have the highlights and points to take away from the game.
At this point in the season, it’s cliched to say that the only thing consistent about the Philadelphia Union is inconsistency. Every game somebody seems to take a step forward while somebody else takes a step back. Kyle Nakazawa got his first start in the midfield while Jack McInerney slotted in next to Moreno up top. Danny Mwanga continued to hold down his spot at left bench.
It could have gotten really, really ugly for Philadelphia Union. Three goals and a red card by halftime. Instead, the Union put in a respectable second half and showed some good signs for the future.
After a very disappointing first half the Union looked set to charge back in the second with substitutions Moreno, Miglioranzi and Le Toux. And then came the injury to Le Toux, a much bigger loss than the match itself.
Same Le Toux + same Seitz + same brain cramp = same result.
Unfortunately for the hundreds of SoBs and other supporters making their way to the gleaming Red Bull Arena for the first leg of the newly minted I-95 derby, this formula was all too apparent.
PSP has a blow-by-blow breakdown of the Philadelphia – Toronto game.
Video highlights, player ratings, and a rundown of what we learned from a tough loss in which 9 Union players played good games while a few others had games they (and we) would like to forget.
