Both starting Union center backs are one yellow card away from suspension.

As of Wednesday night, April 23rd, 2026 at 11 PM, we give our best but unofficial understanding of the Philadelphia Union’s current yellow card report for Major League Soccer. (We do not include yellow cards from the Concacaf Champions’ Cup, since those cards have no impact on MLS.)

  1. Suspended for the next match (with Columbus Saturday, April 25th). No one.
  2. Warned for impending suspension for having already accumulated four yellow cards. Olwethu Makhanya & Japhet Sery.

Here is our best UNOFFICIAL summary of all current Union MLS yellow cards accumulated.

  • Four cards:
    • Olwethu Makhanya
    • Japhet Sery
  • Two cards
    • Nathan Harriel (Three “good behavior” games accumulated of the five consecutive needed to eliminate one yellow)
    • Jovan Lukic (Two good behaviors accumulated)
  • One card
    • Philippe Ndingha (Two good behaviors accumulated; has not played in the last two matches)
    • Frank Westfield (Three good behaviors accumulated)
    • Bruno Damiani (Three good behaviors accumulated)
    • Cavan Sullivan (Three good behaviors accumulated)
    • Alejandro Bedoya (Zero good behaviors accumulated)
    • Danley Jean Jacques (Zero good behaviors accumulated)
  • One-reduced-to-zero through the first of three three possible good behavior reductions
    • Jesus Bueno (Two possible reductions left)
    • Ezekiel Alladoh (Two reductions left)
  • No one else on the squad has received an MLS yellow card.

As should be no surprise the yellow cards are concentrated in zone 14 and on the back line in front of goal, the defensive midfielders and the center backs.

Nathan Harriel switching into the center with Westfield switching sides and Philippe Ndinga coming on at left back is a move that Bradley Carnell has already used more than once.

And Jesus Bueno has proven himself more than capable as a third number six, as Carnell’s lineup against Toronto demonstrated.

Parenthetical comment having nothing to do with yellow cards: Imagine the Union attacking midfielders being Danley Jean Jacques and Quinn Sullivan, were Sullivan fully to recover the form he had in 2025. Carnell’s press might be formidable after the World Cup.

  1. Both CBs picked up a yellow tonight, so both will miss Columbus? Thank you for doing the analysis, this feels like something the Apple broadcast should have mentioned, but …..it’s Apple TV.
