This is the best photo set you’ve ever done, Marjorie. Just exceptional, especially the trio with Wagner getting steamrolled.

Take a look at the sequence photo at #8. It clearly shows what every one of us in the stadium knew: that should have been a yellow card. It’s also the kind of excellent photojournalism I used to see in the old Philadelphia Bulletin in the days when TV blackouts sold newspapers. Editors wanted you to see the arc of the field-length Van Brocklin-to-McDonald pass and would spread the photos over two whole pages just to give you a feel for the drama of the situation. Thank you Marjorie for bringing back an old newspaper tradition. More please.

Also, I love that Jonathan Tannenwald and the Inquirer have been devoting so much space to the Union on such a regular basis. Newspaper print and commentary are still the Gold Standard for sports coverage (PSP still Platinum for Union news of course). But my Newspaper Copy Editing prof would have busted a gasket if he saw Gazdag’s name misspelled twice as it was in yesterday’s “day-after observations” article. And misspelling a name in a headline could have gotten you re-assigned entirely. Note to Inquirer: you can’t rely on spellcheck for proper names.

    • Thank you for your kind words regarding my photo essay! I appreciate the time you took to read through the captions and that you enjoyed my photos. I also want to thank you for taking the time to write your thoughts on my work.

    • I’ll be at the game tonight both photographing and writing a preview and recap of the match.

Finally a gorgeous day for a match, even with threat of rain earlier in the day. Every one up to this point has been absolutely miserable. I blame Apple hahah.

Awesome stuff… as already said, those Wagner photos are GREAT!!

    • Thank you! I was relieved he got up and played after that. I had not seen the medical rep for the MLS to be on the field before the referee gives the okay and the trainers are allowed on the field. That was the first time I saw that so it made me feel like the result from that his was not going to be good.
