News Roundup: McKenzie gets more attention, Yedlin to Miami?, and Luis Suárez is leaving Barcelona. Maybe.

Philadelphia Union

Hype continues to build around the Union’s homegrown center-back.

The Union remain in second place on ESPN’s power rankings, and are likely to stay there until they beat Columbus or the Ohioans’ dominance cracks.

Kacper made the team of the week, and McKenzie is on the bench. Also note former Union-man (and Wednesday opponent) Haris Medunjanin is there too.

Domestic

Something something “rats leaving a sinking ship“.

Thierry Henry appears to be at his wit’s end in Montreal. [Translation]

How would Seattle feel about DeAndre Yedlin playing for another MLS team?

More trouble in Utah as the Royals’ head and assistant coaches are put on administrative leave for inappropriate comments made to staff.

US Soccer

Every Weston McKennie touch from Saturday’s Serie A-opener.

And every Gio Reyna touch from Deutschland (including the second-youngest American goal in the Bundesliga).

It’s still not clear where Sergiño Dest is headed, but it’s exciting either way.

World

Luis Suárez is headed to Athletico Madrid … or maybe not. But that might be a good thing.

Imagine my surprise.

  1. I have very mixed feelings about McKenzie. Over the last few years he has rapidly grown into being my favorite player, both for what he’s done on the field as well as what he’s done off of it. And yet every day he brings me more dread knowing that he will likely be leaving sooner rather than later and I won’t be watching him as regularly. Hopefully he’ll find a way to continue to make a difference in the world regardless of where he plays his football.

  2. Remainder of the MLS schedule was released (games with no location listed are at Subaru Park) Biggest thing is that they have a rematch with Columbus…but on the road again.
    .
    9/23 – at Cincinnati
    9/27 – Miami
10/3 – in East Hartford against Toronto
    10/7 – Cincinnati
    10/11 – Montreal
    10/14 – at DC
    10/18 – at New England
    10/24 – Toronto
    10/28 – Chicago
    11/1 – at Columbus
    11/8 – New England

So right now it looks like the schedule maker might cost them a realistic shot at the Shield. Union end up with 9 games at Subaru, 5 games neutral (including in Orlando during MLS is Back) and 9 true road games.

  3. a bit unfortunate for Henry. i wish him success in coaching but things could slip away quickly for Montreal if not reigned in.

    • “Sad series in progress. On the night of Sunday to Monday, the Montreal Impact coached by Thierry Henry was reduced to ten for the third game in a row after the expulsion of Romell Quioto.”

3rd game in a row with a red card – that is rough.
