  1. I generally like Matt Doyle. But Ilsinho’s form might be the absolute last question on my mind going into the new season for the Union. I want to know how they plan to NOT concede 50 goals this year.

    • I’m with ya. No doubt he was a difference-maker, but outside of the Red Bulls game (when he came off the bench) and a few other moments of brilliance he wasn’t as vital to the team’s success as Doyle suggests. Also he was rarely a factor when he started, and clearly faded as the season progressed.

I’m more worried about who is going to score, or more importantly who is setting up those goals?

      • Yes. That’s question #2 for me.

      • John P. O'Donnell Jr. says:

Although I generally agree with you, when Ilsinho was on the field they had a ridicules +24 goal differential including the playoffs. For a team that finished +7 that is hard to believe conceding he’s not the greatest defender.

  2. old soccer coach says:

Please remember that Ilsinho’s performance against Red Bulls at Talen came against Red Bulls reserve left back, Connor Lade, not Kemar Lawrence.

    • He still, more often than not, made whatever left back was out there look silly, even when the defender had extra help.

If he is in shape and the club thinks he can stay healthy, I’d keep him as a sub… that’s based on the current roster, of course.

  3. Any Real Salt Lake fans seeing this must be miffed. I sympathize with a fanbase saddled with an ownership group who is usually tight about the purse strings.
