Here is who the Union protected for the upcoming MLS Expansion Draft.

  1. Interesting that the Union protected Monteiro. I wonder if that indicates they believe there’s still a chance to acquire him – either through purchase, or some sort of loan extension. Because if there’s no chance to keep him, I see no reason to protect him.

      Agreed on this. I am guessing they wouldn’t want him selected by, let’s say, Miami – who then spends the money to fully acquire him… money that the Union can’t or won’t spend. This basically covers the Union on that, covers them in case there is still a chances he comes back, and makes sure that if the Union can;t have him, no one in MLS will. Again… this is all just my guess

  2. Is the protection of Wooten a sign of their regard for him? Why not protect Ngalina?

      I believe Wooten was signed to a year and half contract… usually what happens when you come over mid-season. I am assuming they want him, given the money they are on the hook for. As for Ngalina, I am assuming they would think he is an unproven entity and that an expansion side wouldn’t want someone who most likely isn’t ready to play full time yet.
