In pictures: D.C. United 1-5 Philadelphia Union

On August 4, Philadelphia Union traveled to Audi Field to take on D.C. United. This is the first time the teams have played one another since the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

 

In memory of the victims in the two shootings within a day, the flag flies at half mast.

After Bedoya’s goal, the team came over to celebrate with a special lady — Ilsinho’s mom — on the sidelines. Soon after, Bedoya, now famously, took the field mic and said, “Congress, do something now. End gun violence!” “Let’s go!”

 

Warren Creavalle, receives the ball in mid run, allowing him to push through the middle of the field towards his teammates and an attempt at a goal.

Kacper Przybylko watches at the ball gets ready to hit his chest. Joseph Mora is reaching for Kacper. This is the start of the play that resulted in a red card for Mora.

 

Przybylko is denied a scoring opportunity by Mora. Mora pulls him to the ground as Kacper sets up for the shot on goal.

 

Joseph Mora is issued a red card for grabbing and pulling Kasper Przybylko denying him a scoring opportunity. The call prior to VAR was a yellow card.

 

Jack Elliot challenges Wayne Rooney for the ball. Jack looks for Rooney to give him an opening.

 

Collin and Steven Birnbaum get a header towards the goal while Collin tries to block him in the air.

 

Hamid is ready for the shot on goal while the smoke settles from DC United’s only goal of the game.

Montero showed that his ankle injury was not an issue with quick play, avoiding giving up the ball.

Ben Olsen watches him team in the 2nd half. Frustration, both on and off the field, is starting to take its toll on DC United’s spirit.

  1. Thanks for the pictures Marjorie! The last one speaks volumes. I hope for less and less of these events but they keep happening. I have no idea what the best course of action is but let’s hope one is found soon.

  2. Was wondering who the lady was they all embraced after Bedoya’s goal; thanks for sharing! Great pictures!
