Insanely poor performance from USMNT. Totally and completely clear England took the word friendly to heart and called off the assault as a sign of good will… as it was evident the US players on the field against an arguably B team- had neither the technical skill nor the coordinated movement to do even one thing right.

So many times I was watching the third or fourth English player’s timing of when to arrive and it’s a whole different level. John Brooks? WTF was that? Weston McKinnie did you have any purpose? Will Trapp you just arent good enough? Bobby Wood? Bobby Wood is our striker? That’s what we got?
    .
No really… a disgraceful performance. We suck and it’s a bummer.

    • Kind of hard to really judge until a full time coach is hired. That is not out of any disrespect for Sarachan – who has done a great job as interim coach by bringing in and giving opportunities to young/new players. But coming in as an interim with the mandate to do just that rather then focus on winning for over a year now…the message is surely lost and some of these guys seem just happy to be there.

Hopefully this is the kick in the rear that the next generation of USMNTers need to take it to another level. A lot has been written/said about the talent they have – but as they saw yesterday, it ain’t going to be easy.

    • I thought the Caught Offside podcast fellas had a good perspective on this, especially JJ Devaney. You’re not going to match England right now, play out of the back and keep possession. You need a game plan. Pulisic said as much when interviewed by Twellman. One could argue that in a friendly, trying to keep possession and getting flogged is not really the end of the world. You weren’t trying to win (or maybe you weren’t). If it were a truly competitive match, then there’d be more reason to be concerned.

  2. I for one, am hoping Monday never comes. I’m so not looking forward to more seasons of Curtin.

Ok, I can get beyond this IF Tanner does a good revamp of the roster AND provides Curtin with some serious direction on the coaching side. And I’m talking more than just ‘we are using the 4-2-3-1 at all levels’.
    .
I need Tanner (or anyone for that matter) to teach Curtin how to get the players in the shape that the coaches want, and not default to ‘well he always plays that way, so there’s nothing we can do’.
    .
I do NOT want to hear this line again ‘We were trying new things but the guys just weren’t getting it’.
