Philadelphia Union

According to multiple reports, Philadelphia Union have finally found their man to fill the infamous no. 10 position: Czech midfielder Borek Dockal. Many details are still unknown, but the deal is thought to be a loan. More from, PSPPhilly.com and the DelCo Times.

The Union face off against Montreal Impact in a pre-season match today at 7PM. Watch here.

Local

It’s a Pennsylvania preseason today, as Bethlehem Steel FC are set to face newly branded Penn FC in Wayne at 1:30PM.

The Steel continued their roster-building, first signing 19-year-old Zambian left back Prosper Chiluya. Chiluya becomes the first Zambian player in USL. The club then signed forward Aidan Apodaca, drafted by the Union in last month’s SuperDraft.

MLS

Toronto FC and Colorado Rapids kicked off their campaigns in the CONCACAF Champions League. This year is thought by many to be the first that MLS has a real shot to win the CCL. In absolutely frigid weather, Toronto won the first leg, beating Colorado 2-0. More from the Toronto Sun and the Denver Post.

Bundesliga side Schalke 04 signed Atlanta United Academy product and USMNT prospect Zyen Jones.

While one MLS player is headed to the Bundesliga, another Bundesliga player is headed to MLS. Orlando City signed defender Lamine Sane from Werder Bremen.

Lamar Neagle is headed back to Seattle. The Sounders also signed goalkeeper Calle Brown.

Around the globe

Speaking of Werder Bremen, USMNT prospect Josh Sargent inked his contract with the club.

UEFA Champions League action: Chelsea looked to have locked up a win at home against Barcelona, but . . . Messi. The teams drew 1-1 in the first leg. Bayern Munich trounced Besiktas 5-0 after Besiktas had a player sent off.

Sunderland’s owner has put the club up for sale. For cheap. Really cheap.

USMNT wunderkind Christian Pulisic has been struggling lately.

  2. $50M for Sunderland?! There should be a line of potential owners at that price. Seriously, that’s insane.

    • Seriously. For all it’s troubles, it’s a historic club with a real die-hard fan base. I don’t know all the ins-and-outs. Maybe it’s in debt up to its eyeballs, tax liens and what not. I don’t know. But someone needs to get the club back up and facing off against Newcastle.

    • GoFundMe? If we (the loyal Union fan base) can’t own the home town team, why not take our money to Sunderland?

      • It’s cheaper than an MLS expansion side. Maybe we can convince Sugarman to go English, and leave MLS to the people with money.

    • Joel Pterosaur says:

That is insanely cheap…I know I left $50m lying around here somewhere.
