The Philadelphia Union are keeping busy this winter, and the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show is here to keep it all straight for you.

KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP’s Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with Union technical director Chris Albright.

On Monday, the Union parted ways with midfielder and team original Amboi Okugo, sending him to expansion team Orlando City for cash. The team also acquired a player, getting forward CJ Sapong from Sporting Kansas City for the Union’s first-round pick in this year’s draft.

CBS3’s Kevin Kinkead then joins Greg and Eli to continue the discussion about Sapong and Okugo, and the Expansion Draft.

On Monday, MLS teams released their protected lists for the draft, as Orlando City and New York City FC look to stock their teams.

  1. I wish I could ask the white elephant question that doesn’t seem to be getting asked.

“Orlando valued Amobi at a number we were not able to get to”, or is it you did not WANT to get to? If The Union did not want to get to that number I want to know why. What was it about his game that did not fit with the future of the team? The Europe thing becomes bollox IMO because he signed with another MLS team- which means a sit down, “you’re our guy” conversation- which it doesn’t sound like they had- would have changed things. Amobi’s gone. I understand. I just wish to know the real reason.

If I could have the answer to that question maybe I would feel better- maybe I would stop hearing Darryl Hall in my head.

Otherwise excellent questions relative to the State of The Union.

Obviously Fabinho is an excellent chef in the locker room and that is a quality that none of us can taste, or see, or hear or witness- so hopefully that ends the questions about why he was protected. The Ribero thing is very interesting to me. The have NO IDEA how to utilize him is what I’m reading between the lines. Troubling a bit. Watch him get swiped up as a CM somewhere and be the guy before the guy who scores and is the offensive glue to some teams resurgence.

    • There is a high risk with selecting Ribeiro – Marquez for that matter. Neither are proven MLS players. Plus they will have to offer each player a pay bump and a fixed spot on the senior roster. There is plenty more CM, CF, and CB journeymen out there right now. Highly unlikely that either are taken.

  2. “let the carbon and monoxide choke my thoughts awaaaay….”

  3. “I better learn how to face it…..”

  4. “Oh I. Oh I.”
