Last week, LVU Sonic’s Shastri Spencer was named PSP’s Player of the Week for his U.S. Open Cup heroics. Sonic fell to the Harrisburg City Islanders in their next Cup game, but another local player is making a name for himself through the competition.
On Wednesday, Darius Madison, a native of South Philly and former Union Academy player, scored a goal and tallied three assists in Reading United AC’s 5–2 Cup victory over Greater Binghamton FC Thunder. According to PSP’s match report, Madison was a constant menace, his speed and dribbling ability giving the Binghamton defense too much to handle.
Having a hand in four goals would be enough on its own for Madison to get the nod this week, but he wasn’t done. On Sunday, Reading faced NJ Luso Parma on the road in their second game of the PDL season, and defeated them by a score of 2–1. Madison scored both goals.
So, to tally his accomplishments for the week: 3 goals, 3 assists, 2 wins.
With Madison a rising junior at the University of Virginia, it seems the Union would do well to tie him down to a Homegrown Player agreement, tout de suite. Speed, dribbling ability, goals and assists? Yeah, the Union could use some of that.
For now, though, Madison is shining bright in Reading. That’s why he’s PSP’s Player of the Week.
Honorable mention: Harrisburg City Islanders Morgan Langley, the former Union player, scored two goals and an assist in Saturday’s 5-3 win over Dayton Dutch Lions in league play for the team’s first home win of the season. Former Union trialist Clesio Baque also scored a brace in the win.

Having watched the you tube video of the HCI versus DDL game, I would be more interested in Clesio Bauque than Morgan Langley. All credit to Langley for being in the right place at the right time to take the game winner from McGlaughlin’s deflected service, and for the intelligence to get the stoppage time insurance on a 65 yard chip over the keeper, but Clesio was much more dangerous throughout the game in combination with the new Spanish target striker Jose Barril. When those two went off after 70 minutes, roughly, the game changed against HCI.
