PSP wants your photos!

Do you shoot photos of anything related to local soccer? Would you like to show them off?

Share your photos via PSP’s Flickr stream, and PSP may feature your work on the main site. We’ll credit you as photographer and link to your work.

PSP is always looking for local soccer photos, whether of youth or high school soccer, local pickup leagues, soccer pubs, Philadelphia Union or the various other teams stretching from Cape May out to Reading and Harrisburg. We run a photo with every post, so there’s a constant demand for material. (This is particularly the case with youth, high school and college soccer, where we’ve begun increasing our coverage.)

Here’s a guide for how share your photos with PSP.

Photo-sharing

Anyone can shoot a photo and post it online. If you join PSP’s Flickr group and share your photos there, we can pull those photos to run on PSP.

Just describe each photo so we can easily find it by including the following:

  • A short caption describing the photo.
  • Date of photo.
  • Names of player(s) in the photo. (We often search for photos this way.)
  • Names of teams in the photo.
  • Place where the photo was shot.
  • Tags. A tag is a short term that identifies a component of the photo and enables someone to find the photo via search engine. For example, take this photo of Kyle Nakazawa. It has several tags: Kyle Nakazawa, Philadelphia Union, Vancouver Whitecaps, Sons of Ben, PPL Park, Opening Day, etc. If I search for any one of those, I’ll find this photo. It drastically increases the likelihood of a photo running on the main site because it’s easier to find.

A few other tips to make your photo more usable for PSP:

  • If you put your real name on your Flickr account, we can credit you by name. If you’d rather not do that, just list your name in the caption or email Ed Farnsworth or me to let us know who you are. If you don’t want credit by name but would like to share your photos, simply put this in the caption: (Photo: PSP).
  • Shooting your photo from the landscape perspective will increase the likelihood that we use it. That may sound strange, but the format of our front page photos for our featured posts is always landscape.
  • This isn’t required, but it also never hurts to let us know when you’ve shot some photos of an event and posted them to our Flickr account.
For an example of PSP running these photos, check out this post, which featured a photo by Nick Waters.

Traditional press photographer

PSP sends photographers to shoot fieldside at as many games as we can get to. We’ve received press credentials to for photographers to get press access at games featuring Philadelphia Union, the Philadelphia Independence, Philadelphia Fever, Reading United AC, the U.S. National Team (men’s and women’s), and Villanova University. Our photographers have shot fieldside at all of them. We’ve even sent them to Union road games.

In an ideal world, we would like to do this at every major local soccer event. We have four photographers who rotate at Union and national team games in the Delaware Valley. We’re always looking for reliable people to shoot Reading United, Ocean City, Harrisburg City Islanders and other local games as well.
