Peter Nowak said after the game, ““We didn’t play up to our standards tonight. [Harrisburg] appeared to want the game more than we did. It doesn’t matter who you are playing. It is still soccer and you have to want to play the game.

City Islanders coach Bill Becher said, “It was a good team effort tonight. I think some of the guys (J.T. Noone and Morgan Langley) had a point to prove tonight. They have been at the Union team level and want to get back, but I am sure they wanted to prove a point to the Union bosses.”

The team’s will next meet in US Open Cup play on June 26 at PPL Park. Former Union draftee Tom Brandt, now with the City Islanders, said, “It’s going to be a tough challenge (next time). They’re a good squad, an MLS team with a lot of good players, and it’s at their park. It will be a good environment to play in. We got to get through our league games first, our eyes are on them right now. But when the time comes, we’ll be ready to play.”

John Hackworth said about the affiliates meeting in the US Open Cup, “I think we’re both feeling that it’s unfortunate that we’re meeting in the quarterfinals. We wish US Soccer would have maybe looked at that affiliation a little more closely and not put us in the bracket where we could have played each other. But at the end of the day, you’ve got to beat everybody to get to the trophy, so it is what it is.”

Here’s a reminder that Brian Carroll will be doing Soccer Storytime at the Aston Public Library on Friday from 3:30pm-4:30pm.

Cuz we lost to Harrisburg yest? I don’t understand why the team had to be gutted for this bozo to end up getting the boot anyway.

    • I suspect management didn’t know he applied for Hearts. Play on the field doesn’t seem to matter to them.
