Official: MLS All-Stars to face Chelsea at PPL

MLS announced on Wednesday morning that the MLS All-Stars will face Chelsea at PPL Park on Wednesday, July 25 at 8:30pm.

Philadelphia Union season ticket holders will have access to an exclusive pre-sale starting today at 2pm.

Union coach Peter Nowak will skipper the MLS team against Chelsea. A Nowak-coached MLS team defeated Chelsea 1–0 in the 2006 All-Star Game, thanks to a goal from Dwayne De Rosario.

Chelsea last played in Philadelphia in 2004 when they faced AC Milan.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, May 9th at 10am. VISA card holders will have access to a pre-sale between April 25th – May 9th.

The announcement on the Union website says, “Prior to the General Public sale, an exclusive pre-sale for Philadelphia Union season holders to purchase All-Star Game tickets will begin today at 2 p.m. During this pre-sale Union season ticket holders will be able to purchase up to 6 tickets per account at a special season ticket holder price.”

The match will be televised on ESPN2 and TeleFutura.

  1. In what would be a cruel twist of fate, I can see Nowak being a successful coach of this team as he would have the best players at his disposal and his attempts at playing whatever kind of soccer Nowak tries to play would mesh better.
He wouldn’t be trying to fit square pegs into round holes like he does with this team.

  2. The Black Hand says:

He is already working with Thierry Henry, to develop the Frenchman at RB. Also, I hear he will be starting his “secret weapon” formation…two goalkeepers.

  3. Hopefully, Nowak as All Star coach will not affect any front office decisions concerning his job, should the Union continue to drop points. Would the league pressure the team to keep him on, to avoid a PR episode?
