Borislow still at it, Naka scores, Union job fair, more news

Philly native Dan Borislow continues to show he has absolutely no shame or class by pushing for his Florida club to play friendlies this season while the rest of WPS had to cancel their season because of legal battles with Borislow. Yes, he wrecked the rest of the league (allegedly mistreated his players in stunning ways) and wants to keep playing his own team. Repeat: This guy is from Philly. Somehow, after the Le Toux-Nowak fiasco, Borislow still might earn PSP’s first ever Philly Jerk of the Month if we had such an award. (Maybe we should?)

(Yes, that was an attempt to move on from the Le Toux situation. Baby steps, baby steps.)

You too can work for the Union if you go right now to a job fair at PPL Park taking place today until 2 p.m. Don’t worry: These employees are unlikely to get sent to Vancouver.

Former Philadelphia Union midfielder Kyle Nakazawa scored in his first friendly for the Los Angeles Galaxy.

If you haven’t listened to the latest edition of KYW’s Philly Soccer Show, definitely check it out. Really insightful interview with Delco Times writer Chris Vito, who fills in some more gaps on the Sebastien Le Toux departure. Key points:

  • The unraveling of the Le Toux-Peter Nowak relationship began with Le Toux’s public comment last summer that he’d rather play forward;
  • Vito’s insight into Union players’ reactions to Le Toux’s departure;
  • Great interview with Amobi Okugo;
  • Reaction to the WPS collapse;
  • This gem from Greg Orlandini: “One thing we really wanted (the Union) to address in the off-season was leadership, and they have, by getting rid of it.”

Cue the rumor mill: Philadelphia Union and Newcastle United are discussing a summer friendly, according to this unsourced report.

The Wilmington News Journal has a short look at Chandler Hoffman.

Union midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin says all the right things in a feature on the Union web site.

LaSalle alum and former Union player Ryan Richter is still in camp with D.C. United, but former Union attacker Levi Houapeu did not make the cut.

Newly acquired Portland Timbers designated player Jose Adolfo Valencia will miss at least six months as he undergoes knee surgery before ever playing a game for Portland. One key question that hasn’t been addressed: Will Portland be on the hook for his salary?

MLSSoccer.com has a look at the spate of foreign signings this off-season around MLS.

Across the pond, John Terry may quit the English national team after getting stripped of the captaincy. (Yay!) He’ll sit against Manchester United on Sunday.

  1. My dream one day is that the MLS is able to create a womens division for all the teams. Isnt that how Europe does it?
    I think its clear we really need a pro womans league here to keep our WNT on the top. We saw this last WC how close other NTs are getting to us (and just like with the men, the disaparity of ball skills between our WNT and others was getting more obvious) and we really can’t waste time.

  2. Is it just me, or are other people not able to get to the 2nd and 3rd parts of the Philly Soccer Show. Keeps saying file not found.

    Also, with regard to the women’s league. The problem with women’s soccer is that interest in the WNT is not translating into club level. I don’t know whether it’s because people aren’t interested in seeing the WNT players playing against each other week-in week-out or what. But clearly there’s a disconnect, and no one’s been able to figure out how to market it correctly.
