KYW Philly Soccer Show: Alexi Lalas

KYW’s Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch have a special guest on the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show as former US National Team player and ESPN commentator Alexi Lalas joins the pod to discuss the new USMNT coach, Jurgen Klinsmann.

In part one of the pod, Lalas and the co-hosts talk aboutt Klinsmann’s hiring and the impact it will have on the American program. Klinsmann, winner of the 1990 World Cup with Germany, brings with him an impressive resume as player and coach, and is the first World Cup winner to run the USMNT.

In part two, Eli and Greg take a look at a tough week for the Philadelphia Union. The team dropped a frustrating game against Colorado at PPL Park, a game which saw defender Sheanon Williams ejected. After the loss it was controversially announced that striker and team-leading goal scorer Carlos Ruiz had left the Union, with the Union still negotiating his transfer.

In part three, Eli and Greg turn to the Philadelphia Independence, who ground out a 1-0 win against the Atlanta Beat at Widener University on Sunday. With that win the Independence secured a spot in the WPS playoffs for a game which will be played at PPL Park.

Wow. That Lalas segment was really good. Good questions, good answers. I can’t believe I wanted to hear more from the guy considering how often he has turned me off when watching him on television.
