Four Union matches to be on FSC

Major League Soccer announced on Friday that its broadcasting deal with Fox Soccer Channel has been extended for one year. FSC will broadcast 31 regular season matches and three playoff matches, including one conference final. All of the broadcasts will be in high definition. (Click here for the full schedule.)

Four Union matches will be shown on FSC. These include three away games against Portland Timbers, DC United and Sporting Kansas City and the home game against Colorado Rapids.

Fri, May 6 10:30 pm Portland Timbers vs. Philadelphia Union
Sat, July 2 7:00 pm D.C. United vs. Philadelphia Union
Fri, July 29 7:30 pm Philadelphia Union vs. Colorado Rapids
Fri, Sept 23 8:30 pm Sporting Kansas City vs. Philadelphia Union

The home game against Colorado was originally scheduled for Saturday, July 30 at 7:30pm. Presumably, it has been moved to Friday so FSC can broadcast the Vancouver Whitecaps v LA Galaxy on July 30. The away match against Portland has also been moved from Saturday to Friday, as has the away match against Sporting Kansas City. The away match against DC United remains on its originally scheduled date.

While FSC has been a broadcast partner of MLS since 2003, the league was reportedly asking for a substantial increase of money in exchange for broadcasting rights and the league was reportedly also in negotiations with Versus, the sports channel owned by Comcast. The new one-year deal is reportedly worth $8 million. Jeremiah Oshen of SB Nation writes, “That would represent about $1 million more than FSC had reportedly offered originally and $5 million more than they got last year, but considerably less than the $20 million MLS was supposedly seeking.”

  1. So, yeah, Comcast needs to get off their duff and actually, you know, broadcast FSC in high-def.

  2. Screw you Andy.
