The 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft takes place over three rounds and will begin at 2pm today. As was the case with the SuperDraft, the Union have the 5th, 23rd and 41st picks.

Local soccer connections were the theme of today’s Supplemental Draft for the Union.

Local soccer fans will be doubly happy with the selection of midfielder Ryan Richter, the fifth pick of the first round. Not only was Richter selected from La Salle, he grew up in nearby Southampton, Pa.

St. Louis-native Josh Walburn was selected from Princeton in the second round.

Third round pick Matthew Marcin grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and played for FC Delco before being selected from Providence College.
