Union release Dave Myrie

Myrie (top row, 2nd from the left) was released.

Philadelphia Union have released Costa Rican right back Dave Myrie, the club announced today.

This follows his disastrous one-game stint as the Union’s starting right back, in which he was beaten time and again and saw a yellow card for his body block-style tackle of Seattle’s Steve Zakuani.

Myrie was appearing in his first game after joining the Union via the expansion draft from Chicago, with whom he’d signed last September but never appeared in a game. He’s now the first Union expansion pick to leave the team.

The move could clear the way for the signing of Puerto Rico Islanders right back Cristian Arrieta, who is beginning a trial with the Union this week.

  1. I felt badly for the guy. He was clearly in way over his head. Cheers Irie Myrie.
