Enjoyed the discussion about what triggered the turn around. From my view, the pace was too frenetic in the first half of the year – almost like Carnell said “Red Bull counter press got us the shield last year, so let’s press harder and counter faster this year and win it all.” The too-fast pace combined with the personnel changes was too much and the system broke down. Without a Glesnes or Wagner to lead the never-say-die attitude, morale crumbled. Richter told everyone to take a breath and slow down just enough to connect a few passes, and Wagner, Pierre and Q.Sullivan added some new spark and attitude, and all of a sudden it was like a new team. Richter gets a lot of the credit for telling the guys to just play soccer instead of kickball.
