FIFA World Cup final is America’s most expensive event in 2026

Hard Rock Bet, special to The Philly Soccer Page

The FIFA World Cup Final is this weekend at MetLife Stadium. As many as 1.5 billion people worldwide will watch the final between Spain and Argentina on the 19th, but to attend the match in person, fans will need to fork over an average of $14,237 to attend the biggest game in soccer.

FIFA World Cup Final crowned America’s most expensive event in 2026

By a long way! Fans will need to fork out an average of $14,237 to attend the biggest game in soccer. For comparison, The Sporting News reports that the highest priced tickets (Cat. 1) for the 2022 final were $1,748 (factoring in inflation). USAToday  reports that “get in” tickets for this weekend start at $7,996, with lower-level tickets beginning at $11,422.

Hosted in North America for the first time since 1994, scarcity of tickets combined with soaring global demand has pushed the average price to levels no other event comes close to.

The Super Bowl takes second spot, with an average ticket costing $6,636 in 2026. That’s up from roughly $2,000 in 2015, a 232% jump driven by heavy corporate demand and the game’s growing status as a cultural spectacle rather than just 60 minutes of football.

Rounding out the top three are the NBA Finals, averaging $5,447 this year after being hosted at Madison Square Garden, with the Knicks’ rare finals appearance adding extra scarcity value to tickets.

The World Series ($3,000) and CFP National Championship ($4,320) complete the top five, while the Stanley Cup Finals ($2,300) and Las Vegas Grand Prix ($1,638) show hockey and motorsport are catching up fast. Even outside of traditional sport, Electric Daisy Carnival ($1,511) and the Kentucky Derby ($1,406) prove music festivals and horse racing can command four-figure tickets too.

The biggest ticket price inflation since 2015
While the World Cup final tops the price charts, it’s the United States Grand Prix that has seen the steepest rise in cost over the last decade, up 583% from $200 in 2015 to $1,365 today, a surge widely credited to the Netflix-fuelled boom in Formula 1’s popularity.

The NBA Finals aren’t far behind, with prices climbing 505% from $900 in 2015 to $5,447 in 2026, as the league has leaned further into dynamic pricing and premium entertainment positioning.

The College Football Playoff National Championship (411%) and Monster Energy AMA Supercross (360%) also feature prominently, while even more niche events like the Indy 500 and Miami Open have both seen prices rise by around 250% since 2015.

Methodology – This study ranks the most popular events in the U.S. based on their average ticket prices, as well as how inflated their ticket prices have been since 2015. To do so, two price points were collected:

2015 ticket price – the average ticket price for each event in 2015 according to a mix of secondary sources and the official website for each event.

2026 ticket price – the average ticket price for each event in 2026 according to a mix of secondary sources and the official website for each event.

Using these three values, we were able to calculate both the 10-year increase. The events were then ranked from highest to lowest percentage increase.
