The Philadelphia Union’s CONCACAF Champions Cup run came to an end Wednesday night with a 1-1 draw against Liga MX side Club América. After conceding early, the Union found a second-half equalizer when Jesús Bueno converted from the spot, but ultimately the Boys in Blue couldn’t overturn the aggregate deficit. Club América advances to the quarterfinals, where they will face Nashville SC.

Player Ratings

Andrew Rick — 6

Gave up an early goal and another that was ultimately called back, but also made a few saves that kept the Union’s hopes alive.

Nathan Harriel — 5.5

Steady defending and some forward involvement.

Olwethu Makhanya — 5

Beat by his man on the goal which would eventually be overturned, but made a couple of great saves throughout the night.

Geiner Martinez — 4

Foul gave América a free kick opportunity, and Rodrigo Dourado capitalized on it.

Jephet Sery — 5.5

Quietly did his job without any major mistakes, which stands out in a shaky first half.

Jesús Bueno — 7

Took the penalty confidently and provided the only true moment of quality in the match.

Milan Iloski — 4

Still questioning who he was passing to.

Jovan Lukic — 5.5

Kept things moving but without any of his usual spark on either side of the ball.

Cavan Sullivan — 7

Set up Korzeniowski and Harriel on what could have been amazing goals. Can’t blame him for their lack of follow through.

Indiana Vassilev — 4

Lacked the final ball or the shot to truly matter.

Stas Korzeniowksi — 4.5

Set up for a perfect opportunity to score but just couldn’t make it happen. Pulled off at the half before he could redeem himself.

  1. Fair ratings. But I feel a little harsh for the back line, compared to midfield (other than Cavan). The facts/stats say the back line is playing well as a group. But the visuals are just terrible. POOD!

  2. Not about some of these ratings…

Makhanya was fantastic and is he getting dinged for getting beat on an offside play?? Yikes! He is a “7” minimum.

The ref nailed the important calls? He was overturned twice…not an awful
    performance but an “8”?

Vassilev, I agree he has no end product but he played very well against America. “4” is very harsh.
