The Union had hugely important matches in Vancouver and Nashville last week, but of which ended in losses – one of which was an historic drubbing. They finished the seven-day stretch with a win at home against New England, but a listless one at best. And yet, as this impressive Union campgain comes closer to an end, much is still in the team’s control.

I do disagree with your analysis re: Miami winning out. I honestly think Miami has a good chance of winning out, especially w/ Suarez back from his suspension.

I think the Union need to win out, and even then I think they may not win the Shield.
If anything, that makes it all the worse. More of voluntarily leaving your best players out of the starting 11.

I have one minor quibble, (or not a quibble, an addendum maybe?) and that is that I don’t think it’s entirely unusual to leave a starter on the bench in a cup game, especially one that’s not a final. It can be particularly useful to bring starting caliber talent on in a second half, particularly if there’s a chance for extra time. We all remember Obafemi Martins coming on for Seattle in the final to finish us off. That said, 100% agree that I don’t think that applies to Q. Sullivan. You want your creator out there from the beginning.
Obafemi Martins & Gareth Bale came in late because they were not 100% going into the game, not necessarily as a tactical wrinkle

For the Union, we are best when we score first and can be on the front foot, so we should be starting our best XI
