The Philadelphia Union defeated the New York Red Bulls 3-2 in front of a weather and game-worn crowd at Subaru Park on Wednesday night. The game was originally scheduled for July 9th, but was postponed to August 13th after torrential downpours flooded the pitch, making it unplayable for the first attempt. Fans grew anxious as another rain delay stretched over two hours before players were able to take the pitch for the rescheduled game.

The Union were forced to come from behind twice but answered quickly each time the Red Bulls scored before Olwethu Makhanya buried a ball punched away by Red Bulls keeper A.J. Marcucci at the far post seconds before the 90th minute, as Marcucci was unable to defend his goal after landing awkwardly and injuring his knee while punching the ball away.

With the win, the Union advance to the semi-finals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and will play in Nashville on Tuesday, September 16th.
