All 3 Points Podcast: Episode 8

It’s the All 5 Points podcast, an All 3 Points podcast production…!

An international break and the typical summer smash of games gave Union fans 5 matches in just a three weeks. Chris and Jeremy both took vacation in the middle, while the Boys in Blue took points in three of the five games, as well as some knocks along the way. In the end, Union fans woke up mid-July with their team still atop the Supporter’s Shield standings, a truth few outside of the Wharf Building in Chester would have believed possible back in February.

Chris and Jeremy are here to tell it all.

  1. Enjoyed the episode! Two points for me from your 5 points: 1) Enjoyed the comparison of Mbaizo and Wagner trajectories. Six or so years ago Mbaizo was the new generation replacing Gaddis and Wagner was a placeholder while Real finished developing. How wrong that was- just shows how hard it is to evaluate players and project how they develop or stagnate. 2) Maybe you’re rusty after 5 games but how did you miss Blake on your list of Gold Cup absences for the Chicago game? Reflects well on Rick that it wasn’t noteworthy. I don’t think you mentioned Blake the entire episode. Has there been another 5 game stretch in the last 10 years when Blake’s absence or heroics wasn’t a major part of the story line?

  2. The system has produced results. Union have beaten all the teams they should beat, and really not dropped points…..except, they have one win against another team in the top 5, and Cincy was in the middle of CCL at the time.

You said Columbus and Nancy get a pass when they lose in a given week or two. Yes, because they have silverware and have proven that what they do works in the playoffs. Union as a team and Energy Drink Soccer have not.
