The Associated Press looks at tonight’s match against D.C. United.

Cory Burke may make his season debut on Monday against New England.

Over at The Inquirer: Aaronson, Ilsinho, and Monteiro show the Union’s skill at escaping opposing defenses.

ICYMI: PSP’s Jim O’Leary suggests the Union take the path of least resistance to the MLS Cup Playoffs.

José Andrés Martínez sat on the bench yesterday as Venezuela lost to Paraguay, 1-0. Just sayin’.

MLS

Regarding the below tweet, the Union II are allegedly one of the teams to leave the USL.

The MLS postponed Colorado Rapids games for 10 days.

Good podcast on the Ben Olsen era. They mention that D.C. United lived in the moment and never developed a long-term plan. Makes me admire the Union for taking the time to establish an identity.

Around the globe

Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive for coronavirus and entered isolation.

A hat-trick from Neymar helped Brazil to a 4-2 victory over Peru in a World Cup qualifier.

Leading clubs allegedly threatened to quit the Premier League in a bid to push through a transformation of English football being engineered by Liverpool and Manchester United that would hand them more power and wealth.

New Zealand will not travel to England for a Wembley friendly next month.

  1. Cory Burke’s status on the club website has shifted from “loaned out” to “international,” which means he needs an international slot once Martinez is back from quarantine after sitting on Venezuela’s bench.
    .
It seems fairly obvious that Matej Oravec is judged not ready for prime time, so an alternative to buying an extra slot for the last three or four matches plus the playoffs would be to loan Oravec to Union II for the rest of the season and use his slot for Burke.
    .
Could use Ngalina that was as well, since Burke would replace him as the fourth striker.

    • I’m assuming it will be Ngalina that makes way, though I’d rather see him in the 4th spot than Wooten.
      .
Or just go out and buy an IS from a team that doesn’t need it. DC just bought one from SKC for GB50k (Garber Bucks)

  2. Ronaldo’s team mate, Weston McKennie, now also has tested positive for coronavirus.

  3. Here’s an article on the USSF Athletes’ Council, including Matt Freese in the running for the next election to be on the council.
