Philadelphia Union

Union not satisfied despite their knockout-round-clinching win.

Brendan Aaronson impresses again with the silk.

Three things we learned from the Union victory.

Coverage from Miami’s press.

MLS

Last night may have seen the best worst MLS game ever as San Jose Earthquakes came back from being down 3-1, to beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-3 in the 90th minute. Yikes.

Can a goal be more embarrassing for the team that scored it than the team that conceded?

A nice piece on the Wednesday night Florida Man Fever Dream.

No new positives in the Orlando bubble is good news.

Atlanta and Cincinnati are live on ESPN as this is published. It is…interesting. #PrayForHaris

Here’s what’s at stake in tonight’s matchups.

NWSL

Knockout matches kick off tomorrow in the NWSL Challenge Cup. Heck yeah.

It’s easy scouting at the tourney for USWNT skipper, Vlatko.

  1. Old Soccer Coach says:

Following up on ATL v FCC, Cincy won 1-0. ATL had noticeable squad rotation in the midfield, and then went down a man in the 26th minute.

I did not see the whole match. The stats say there were 7 yellows and two reds. Atlanta had five and both reds by memory.

  2. Old Soccer Coach says:

Take nothing away from Frankie Amaya’s wonder-strike, nothing at all.
    .
Watch the replay. The camera shot is from behind Amaya’s ball and shows Brad Guzan’s hand passing through the ball’s image a gnat’s eyelash after the ball passes.
    .
Guzan takes a truncated jab step before he launches his dive. You don’t see the feet but you do see the legs above them. In other words he was not set when the shot was struck. I would guess the shot caught him by surprise as it was taken from at least 25 yards out and Amaya did not get a lot of game minutes last season.

Jose “El Brujo” Martinez is suspended for the Orlando match for violent conduct against Miami. Here’s the URL. Remember links don’ work in comment boxes.

    not good news.

    • not good news, but its a learning experience for him. Remember, Kai Wagner got his red early last season and then he chilled…

    • Shame. I was looking forward to “El Brujo” savaging the Orlando midfield.

    • Delco Roots says:

Not good news for Martinez, but this is our chance to see Oravec get a run. If he shows well, it really, REALLY adds to our depth.

      • OneManWolfpack says:

Unfortunately I think it’ll just be Creavalle and not Oravec. And I’d rather have El Brujo suspended for this game than the next one, in the knockout stage

      • In Tanner We Trust says:

Can I ask why you’d prefer the knockout stage? Personally, I think Orlando will be somewhat of a threat this year so I would rather pick up regular season points. It’s tight early on in the East at the moment.
