Submit your entry for a Union Best XI of the 2010s

The decade is coming to an end.

That also means that it’s the end of the first decade in Philadelphia Union history — a decade that’s had its ups, and downs, and downs, and downs… and some ups right at the end.

It’s also been ten years since the founding of the Philly Soccer Page — we published our first post on November 16, 2009. And here we are, over ten years and 9,690 posts later…

So it only seemed appropriate to celebrate the end of the decade by taking a look back at the players who have made the last ten years memorable.

Over the course of this week, PSP writers will be posting their picks for the Union Best XI of the 2010s.

(Credit to Chris Gibbons, our resident generator of good ideas, for generating this good idea.)

We’ll also wrap this week up with Peter Andrews’ updated ranking of every player in Union history. (The last edition was published in August 2017.)

But we also want to hear from our community of readers and commenters here at PSP as to your picks.

The rules are simple: You can use any player who was signed to a Union contract at any point before Dec. 1, 2019. You can use any formation you want. And you can use any criteria you want. We recommend that you use a lineup builder to put together your entry (https://www.buildlineup.com/ is one good option).

By Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m. EST, email your Best XI to pandrews@phillysoccerpage.com. Please include your name and a brief description (no more than 100 words) of your choices. No prizes or anything, just a chance to have some fun and remember the decade that was.

We’re excited to see what you come up with!

  1. Any entries containing Rais M’bolhi should automatically be disqualified.

    • Chris Gibbons says:

He’s one of only two Union goalkeepers to attend that little tournament in Brazil.

    • How about Rais M’bolhi featuring in the Union’s all-time worst 11. This could be almost as much fun…

      • In Tanner We Trust says:

I’d love to do a Worst XI as well. Good idea. Also realizing that I didn’t even include Ilsinho in my entry as an honorable mention. I’ll show myself out.

      • As fun as a worst XI might be, too many on it are guys I wouldn’t want to hold up for that sort of derision. M’bolhi is an exception.

  2. D is for defense says:

Yeah this was a fantastic idea Chris! *cough cough*
