Philadelphia Union

No Union players were named to the 2018 MLS All-Star Game Roster.

The Union got blown out by LAFC, losing 4-1.

Local, LA, and national coverage.

In more positive news, Borek Dockal missed the game because his wife Kamila was giving birth to their second child. Congratulations to the Dockals and somebody get that kid into the US Youth system quick.

Local

Bethlehem Steel FC beat Charlotte Independence 4-1, proving once and for all that no one should take the Mecklenburg Declaration seriously.

Reading United beat Evergreen FC, improving their record to 10-0-1 in PDL play.

Penn FC drew against Indy Eleven, extending their unbeaten streak to five games.

And in a result totally appropriate for Fourth of July Weekend, the Ocean City Nor’easters beat FA Euro New York 5-0.

MLS

The Columbus to Austin move would be controversial on both ends. #SaveTheCrew

Antoine Griezmann is the latest European start to start talking about ending his career in MLS. Frankly if he’s not coming until he’s past thirty, should we even want him to come?

Commercial flights continue to be a contentious issue behind the scenes.

The Cascadia battle for the hearts and minds of Portland, ME continues.

Orlando City has announced James O’Connor as their new head coach, continuing the Louisville-Florida connection.

The Chicago Fire organization has revoked the official supporters group status of Sector Latino, following 14 months’ worth of violations of the Fan Code of Conduct by the group.

On Saturday, more people were in the stadium to see Atlanta beat Orlando than were there for France-Argentina or Uruguay-Portugal.

Zlatan was unimpressed by the Cali Classico crowds. Is now the time to point out that Old Trafford only has a capacity of 75,000, and PSG only averages around 46,000?

Collin Martin, of Minnesota United, came out ahead of the Loons’ loss to Dallas. This once again makes MLS the only top-tier men’s league in the US with an openly gay player, but doesn’t even come close to the representation achieved by most women’s leagues.

NWSL

The North Carolina Courage will be playing a doubleheader with North Carolina FC in September. With two games and four teams involved, the day will still take less time than your standard NFL broadcast.

go90 is going away, but NWSL will be streaming games previously scheduled for the app on their website.

The Internet has found out about Alanna Kennedy.

World Cup

Aly Wagner is making history.

The World Cup actually has a lot in common with MLS.

Saturday:

France beat Argentina in a comically high scoring game.

Cavani, not Suarez, carried Uruguay past Portugal, meaning Ronaldo and Messi were eliminated from the World Cup on the same day.

Sunday:

In the greatest upset in World Cup history, Russia beat Spain on penalties. In fairness, the Russians were the only team to have scored goals at the end of extra time.

Not to be out done Croatia-Denmark also went to penalties when Luka Modrić failed to convert a penalty in extra time. In the end it didn’t matter though, as Danijel Subašić stopped three to give the Croatians the win.

Monday:

Brazil vs. Mexico, 10AM on FOX

Belgium vs. Japan, 2PM on FOX

HUGE win we got for Russia over Dem supported Spain. Why can’t they cooperate? Make Russia Great Again.

  2. Watching the games on Saturday at Fado was so much fun! Were packing in like sardines. Went to Brauhaus Schmitz on Sunday. Much less crowded but at least I could sit down and eat some.

  3. SilverRey says:

PSV is a 5h!+ show. The really do not deserve to be running ANY MLS team.

    Sell local.

    Garber OUT!!!
    Save The Crew!

  4. Anybody else see that ESPN did an article about every team’s big question half way through the year and completely forgot the Union?
