Philadelphia Union

All told, nothing too surprising in Toronto. Considering how far back you need to go to find ten Union road wins.

Local, Toronto, national, and Canadian national coverage of the game.

In more positive news, Jack Elliott is getting some coverage back in the old country.

One year ago today. Well, yesterday.

Local

Bethlehem Steel FC came back from behind Richmond to win 3-1.

The twenty eighth minute equalizer was scored by Union man Matt Real.

Penn FC also had a good weekend, beating Tampa Bay Rowdies 3-0.

Carli Lloyd was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

MLS

Columbus is also just a third of the way through a busy week. #SaveTheCrew

Status update from Allianz Field, the future home of Minnesota United.

The headline is a little over the top, probably as a result of strong home-team bias for an English player. But it’s interesting considering this is from the same nation that produced David Beckham.

New York is red, for now.

LAFC broke their win streak, but the real headline is the attendance. Or lack thereof.

Taylor Twellman on the impact of the Lee Nguyen trade.

For anyone (me) wondering why MLS is caring about eSports.

Women’s Soccer

United Women’s Soccer (Tier II, pro-am) has announced a streaming partnership focused on improving exposure for the league and more importantly the players.

The US Anti-Doping Agency is not pulling any punches.

Portland will (deservedly) host the NWSL final.

Down in Mexico, the Liga MX Femenil Clausura final was a Clásico Regiomontano and set a world record for women’s club attendance.

US Soccer

The US (and Mexico) will not be taking part in the 2019 Copa America. But that’s because the CONCACAF Teams chose to focus on the Gold Cup instead, which is probably a good thing.

US Open Cup Hype is getting started with this awesome video focused on Detroit City FC. (Facebook Link)

Speaking of US Open Cup, Brooklyn Italians beat NY Cosmos in their play-in round match. This means the team owned by a man who claims to know how to fix US Soccer couldn’t beat an NPSL team.

Sources saying this is the short list for the next USMNT manager.

World

Stoke go down, Brighton & Hove stay up.

Chivas are looking to load up on talent before heading to the Club World Cup, leading to rumors that they’re trying to sign Carlos Vela.

It’s not over yet, but a draw on Sunday means Napoli would need some unusual luck in order to keep Juventus from winning Serie A.

Barcelona remains unbeaten after drawing in El Classico.

  1. I know there is some longstanding conventional wisdom©️ That’s says you have to have two teams in Los Angeles but he’ll if I know what it is.

  2. That attendance tweet is way overblown. The players are still warming up in the picture, and the comments said it was really hot. Why would 20,000 fans sit in stifling weather to watch the players warm up when you can be in the shade of the concourse enjoying a beer? Talen Energy doesn’t “fill” up (I use that word loosely) until right before the player march and anthem. That is a non-story by a guy who is likely a Galaxy fan.

  3. very heartening to read about Liga MX Femenil

    • Jim O'Leary says:

Yeah it will be interesting to see how it impacts the Mexican WNT. They have strict locals-only rules in Liga MX Femenil, so all of that talent is going to be WNT eligible. Even if they just wind up being a feeder league for NWSL/FA WSL/Frauen-BL, it could be huge for Mexico and women’s soccer at large.
