Gold Cup

The USMNT is set to face El Salvador tonight in Philly.

Five things to know about El Salvador.

The Gold Cup has shown us that the USMNT may not be as deep as previously thought. I think this is honestly the wrong conclusion to draw. I think a better conclusion would be that a bunch of supporting players playing without the true stars looked worse when asked to do more than they should have been asked to do. You’re always only as good as your best players.

Philadelphia Union

Union notes. Apparently Derrick Jones suffered a concussion in the Swansea game. The Union are going to have to go deep into their depth tonight, with Pontius, Herbers, Jones, and possibly Bedoya all out.

Mo Edu is still training and trying to get back to fitness.

Ale Bedoya is new father to Milena Karin Bedoya. Congrats Ale!

Gooch and Elliott are forming one of the league’s best CB pairings.

Auston Trusty trusts the process, which is sure to make him a Sixers fan favorite.

Pontius hopes that his time with the USMNT helps him bring success to the Union.

  1. Re the US team, there is a Malcolm Gladwell Revisionist History podcast that argues that a soccer team is only as good as its WEAKEST player. “My Little Hundred Million.” It makes some interesting points.

So many times and now it is ‘Trust the process’ turn.

The capability of the human species to obliterate something and make even the faintest mentioning of it nauseating.

…. think I’d rather….” Hey ref suck on my balls” which is saying something.

  3. John P. O'Donnell Jr says:

Rookie of the year playing next to the comeback player of the year. I guess it could happen but they’ll need a lot more wins for it to pan out.

    • Elliott is going to need to score some goals to have any chance of beating out that kid in Atlanta for ROTY. Dude’s like 7 feet tall, can’t they aim corner kicks at his head?

      • According to some article I read somewhere on the internet (it may have been the MLS article on ROY, but I can’t remember), Gressel got so much time for ATL because Martinez was out. With Martinez coming back, Gressel is expected to get less time.
