Union re-sign Creavalle

Philadelphia Union announced on Saturday the re-signing of fullback/defensive midfielder Warren Creavalle.

Union sporting director Earnie Stewart said in a statement, “Warren is a versatile player who has a great deal of experience in our league. His ability to adapt to several positions and his work ethic make him a valuable player to have on our roster.”

Creavalle, 25, joined the Union last August from Toronto FC, making two starts over five appearances.

With the Creavalle announcement, 20 of the Union’s 28 roster spots are now filled:

DEF (6): Anderson Conceicao (INT’L), Fabinho, Raymon Gaddis, Richie Marquez, Keegan Rosenberry, Joshua Yaro (GA/INT’L)
MID (10): Eric Ayuk (INT’L), Tranquillo Barnetta (INT’L), Brian Carroll, Warren Creavalle, Maurice Edu (DP), Leo Fernandes, Sebastien Le Toux, Vincent Nogueira (INT’L), Chris Pontius, Walter Restrepo
FWD (2): Fabian Herbers (GA/INT’L), C.J. Sapong

INT’L ROSTER SPOTS FILLED (INT’L): 6 (Blake, Fabinho, and Le Toux have green cards)
UNSIGNED DRAFT PICKS (3): Taylor Washington (No. 23), Mitchell Lurie (No. 44), Cole Missimo (No. 64) 

Players began reporting to the the team on Friday for medicals before the start of preseason training, scheduled to begin on Sunday at University of Pennsylvania’s Dunning-Cohen Champions Field.

    but does he play a position or is he just a general utility defenseman of last resort.

  2. Based on his play last year, he’s semi-serviceable as a D-mid, and we need depth at that position, as Nogueira gets injured, Edu may get a call-up, and Carroll is 34. In his little time as a fullback last year he was pretty atrocious.

      His pressuring routes when DCM were not straight at the target, but circular, as though running to attack before identifying the target.

    • To where will Edu be called? Hopefully Scotland in the summer as Rangers gain promotion.
