POSTPONED: Union-Dallas rescheduled; new kickoff Saturday at 4 pm

The nationally televised match between Philadelphia Union and FC Dallas scheduled for Friday night at 7 pm has been postponed.

The match has been rescheduled for Saturday at 4 pm.

A  club press release read:

After careful review and consultation with the participating clubs and local authorities, Major League Soccer has decided to postpone tonight’s match against FC Dallas as a result of the poor weather conditions predicted for this evening. The game has been rescheduled for tomorrow with kick-off at 4 p.m.

“We had every intention to play our match as originally scheduled, but the current weather conditions will challenge the safety of our fans, players, and staff, and they always will be our first priority,” Union CEO and Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz said. “With a sunny day in the high 50’s forecasted for tomorrow, we look forward to welcoming everyone to a magnificent setting at PPL Park.”

There is a winter weather advisory for Chester, Pa., as well as much of the surrounding areas, until 8 p.m. Friday. Snow accumulations are expected to be 2-4 inches, much of which is expected to fall in the early afternoon making for dangerous traffic conditions.

Along with discussion from both clubs, the league ultimately decided to move the match to tomorrow in the best interest of the fans and the clubs. The match will be played at 4 p.m. and will now be broadcast on Univision Deportes Network (UDN). Univision will also live stream the game online. It was originally scheduled for UniMas.

An announcement on the league website said,

All previously purchased tickets will be honored for Saturday’s match. No refunds or exchanges are available, but if you have any further questions please feel free to contact Union Fan Services by calling 1-877-21-Union (Press 1 for Tickets, then 4 for Fan Services) or by email atFanServices@PhiladelphiaUnion.com.

The game can be viewed nationally in the United States on the Univision Deportes Network and on UnivisionDeportes.com, with either Spanish commentary or English commentary via the use of Secondary Audio Programming (SAP).

The rescheduled match will also be available to viewers in Canada and Mexico via MLS LIVE.

    .
One thing I won’t be doing at 4pm tomorrow that I will be doing at 7pm tonight is chasing after sundowning patients and pushing diuretics. Magic News.

  2. i am so happy that they postponed this game. i was not looking forward to sitting outside in either snow or freezing rain

  3. Good cause now I can drive down tomorrow:)

  4. I won’t be able to go, due to prior plans. Still, I wasn’t looking forward to driving down in this weather and then sitting there in the miserable rain, snow, and cold. So it all works out; my dad will take my daughter instead.

  5. Old Soccer Coach says:

All of the above, plus it preserves the field better for future matches.

    • You mean preserved till tomorrow when it all melts, the field becomes mud, and is basically ruined for half a season? Sounds awesome.

      • Old Soccer Coach says:

I think they’ve got a pretty good drainage system. A few seasons ago they played Seattle at PPL in a driving rainstorm, gave up a late goal to only get a tie, but the field held up remarkably well. If the construction of the practice fields is any indication, there’s a whole field of drainage pipes under the pitch buried in sand or something like sand, all laid over a layer of plastic sheeting. I’d love to know how they do it, because EPL pitches that thirty years ago looked like mud pits by this time of year now look pristine.

      • They actually I don’t believe they do have an advanced drainage system (which is hard to believe for any modern day stadium where surface quality is so highly sought).

We had a game delay of 90 minutes one time last year because of field flooding and they were using squeegies (in the most ineffective way they possibly could have) to try to get the water off the field.

PPL employees have told me the field actually floods if they get rain AND there is a very high tide on the river.

      • Because the drainage system drains directly to the river. Combination of rain & high tide – water has nowhere to go. At the NYRB game last year, by 2nd half field was ok, because tide had gone out.

      • The Black Hand says:

That rain delay afforded us some quality time with Mike Petke…memories…

      • Field is covered. Snow stops falling, snow is removed and there you have it nice dry grass.

  6. I had to work tonight. So this is great!

  7. Soccer, the only sport where 2-4 inches scares the hell out of people. So does the new station have SAP, cause that’s the only possible upside for me.

  8. James Lockerbie says:

Univision has to set up and make their broadcast station make sap available. I changed my sap and it didn’t work on univision but it was working all other channels. I am pretty sure that makes it Uni visions problem.

Union are getting thumped on social media about changing the game day. I’d say they were in a lose lose situation. I personally am very happy I am sick and my wife did not want me or my kids out in this weather. Tomorrow sunny and in the 50’s go Union!

  9. There’s no chance that the Union traded Danny Cruz to pay for the snow removal, is there?

  10. cruel…..but funny, +1. If that’s the case, we should just rename Sak to Roger Dorn from Major League…….

  11. Justin ball says:

What channel is the game on?

    • John Osborn says:

It’s 618 for Comcast out here in California. But you need the Latino Package, and since it’s still blacked out on MLS LIVE, guess I won’t be watching it for 48 hours 🙁

  12. I was prepared to suffer the storm but now I’ll have to miss you be match. Too bad but I’ll DVR it. Lot A must be even worse than the last thaw since they sent out an email apologizing for the horrible shape its in.

  13. These announcers are horrible.

    • Diaz sold that elbow. Yes Pfeffer had his elbow up but it was in no way as bad as he acted. If it was an elbow to the temple would knock you out cold. He didn’t even come off for concussion test. Yellow card at most.

      • Pfeffer was out of control. The elbow was bad. I agree though. No red card. It must be the team name that MLS and officiating has a bone to pick in light of this most recent labor dispute. Three games no fortune with the referee.

  14. SAP no trabajo. No entiendo . Go Union!!!!

  15. 1. What the hell is Zach thinking with that elbow? I think a red was appropriate. I would have expected one if a FCD player did that.

    2. This team is just bad. LeToux has no le touch. His passing was awful. Nogs and Edu are the only players with some semblence of skill. This is a grinding team without speed.

    3. Univision pays those people to announce? That sounded like a high school game complete with fake enthusiasm and painfully contrived exchanges.

    4. There are no ideas when the Union hit the top third. Some of those cutback passes to the 18 were not bad, but if every player shanks them, what’s the point?

    5. Communication. Sooo many missed runs, overly-delayed passes and missed connections. What the heck are they working on all week? Maybe elbows to the head?

    6. Why can’t this site have a game-day thread?

    • Because these guys work their butts off to keep this site going and we get it all for free. They can only do so much and what they do is the best of its kind.

      • You know all the content is user generated, right? It’s not like they have to create anything. It’s as simple as writing “Dallas at Philadelphia: Gameday Thread”…then hit submit. I will volunteer to write that sentence and hit a button once a week.

      • I am truly staggered by your lack of appreciation for a blog you clearly log on to regularly.

      • For the most part, I’m just looking for the reason, because the authors tend to do a great job with the analysis and regional reporting. It seems like such an easy thing as most sports blog tend to have a gameday thread. Maybe it’s a calculated decision? You implied ad-hominem was appreciated :).

    • Follow PSP on Twitter and you’ll get game-day commentary right on through the match.
