KYW Philly Soccer Show: The Berry signing and tactics talk

The Philadelphia Union continue to make news during their busiest offseason in the team’s short history, this time with the acquisition of defender Austin Berry. That is just one of the many topics we are talking about on a round table edition of the Philly Soccer Show. KYW’s Greg Orlandini and PSP writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by PhiladelphiaUnion.com writer Kevin Kinkead and PSP’s Adam Cann.

The pick up of the 2012 MLS Rookie of the Year Berry solidifies the back four as the Union head into the season. With coach John Hackworth saying the team will play a more open 4-3-3 formation this year, Greg, Eli, Kevin, and Adam also get into tactics and which players on the roster will fit best in the system.

  1. Great show, I really like when you guys go deep into the tactics, criticisms, and possibilities of the team

  2. Just wanted to say, this was a great listen. Really probably a must-listen for anyone interested in the tactical deployment possibilities heading into the season. I can’t wait til the boys come north.

I feel like the U would really benefit from expanding preseason access, namely providing a stream for every game. I say this completely out of ignorance as to what that process entails, but preseason should serve as a hypewagon on the way to the regular season, and all we really have is the team-reported stuff and the best speculation of others (which is still quite good in this podcast). Even if fans didn’t watch them too much, it’d give the increasing media around the team something to really dissect.
