It’s not often that we (or anyone else, for that matter) get to write anything positive about anything related to Toronto FC. Facing down the possibility that his team’s six game winless streak was about to increase to seven, Philadelphia’s own Bobby Convey dragged Toronto to win their first league game at home in over a year. After a 17th minute goal by Dominic Oduro of the visiting Columbus Crew, Toronto’s fate looked to be seal heading into the waning minutes of the game and TFC’s masochistic fans were surely ready to be let down once again by their dysfunctional hometown team.
Then Bobby Convey happened.
Seventy minutes after Columbus’s opener, the left winger delivered a sharp through pass to teammate Jeremy Brockie. Quickly laying off the ball for a charging Johnathan Osorio, the midfielder buried a left-footed shot past Crew goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum. Seven minutes later, Convey would perform some last second heroics. Finding a streaking Andrew Wiederman, the Philadelphia native would loft an inch-perfect cross that would put the nail in Columbus’s coffin.
On the other side of America’s Hat, it was Princeton’s own Antoine Hoppenot who would seal the fate of a depleted Vancouver side on Saturday. You can read about PSP’s Player of the Week here.
Finally, from the in case-you-missed-it files, a bunch of local lads put on a show last Wednesday as USL Pro side Harrisburg thumped the Dayton Dutch Lions. Union Home Grown Player Jimmy McLaughlin scored a goal off of a ball from fellow Union loanee Aaron Wheeler, while former Union man Morgan Langley had an assist and Middletown, PA native Jason Pelletier had two goals of his own.

hey, Hoppenot didn’t play 90 minutes
Great stuff by our local lads! Someone once told me that Bobby never played much as a teenager and watched most of the action from the bench; great lesson for some of the kids who are on the bench these days.
