On Friday, U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos named the 21-player roster for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey, and among those chosen was Union Academy product and Downingtown native Zack Steffen. Steffen and his teammates will face Portugal’s U-20 team on Friday, June 14, at Vila Real Santo Antonio, Portugal as a warm up to the tournament. The tournament itself will begin on June 21, when the U.S. will compete in Group A along with Spain, France and Ghana. All of the team’s World Cup group matches will be televised on an ESPN network.
On the USL PRO side of things, Philadelphia Union Home Grown Player Cristhian Hernandez once again showed his quality while on loan to Harrisburg in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Wilmington. Coming into the game in the 58th minute, Hernandez instantly began to show his worth for the City Islanders. Provided with an opportunity in the 75th minute, Hernandez set up Harrisburg’s insurance goal with some beautiful corner service that would find the head of teammate Coady Andrew. Though Andrews’ header would hit the woodwork, his subsequent rebound goal would ensure the home team’s win. Hernandez received an honorable mention in the USL PRO Team of the Week.
