PSP needs a few good volunteers to pitch in at your friendly neighborhood soccer news site.
We’re looking for a webmaster/troubleshooter and writers for a variety of areas.
Last year, we added some good volunteers who are still with us, and we hope to find a few more to make this site better.
If you’re interested, please email me at dwalsh@phillysoccerpage.com or contact us through our Contact page. If it’s for a writing spot, please include 2-3 writing samples. (They need not related to soccer.)
Here’s more detail on what we need.
- Web site troubleshooter/webmaster
PSP needs an experienced coder with experience using WordPress (and possibly Drupal) who can help resolve technical problems when they arise on PSP’s back end. The role entails as little or as much time as you’re willing to put in. It could be anything from troubleshooter to full-on webmaster. Bottom line: PSP has grown into a huge site, and we need someone with technical expertise to help fix problems as they arise. (If this page loaded slow for you, then you have an idea what we’re talking about.)
- Ocean City Nor’Easters writer
- The Fan’s View writer
PSP is looking for two writers to join our weekly rotation of Fans’ View posts. The idea here is to be a voice of the fan and write about the fan experience from the fan’s point of view. Objectivity is not required, and neither is deep analysis of the team(s) you’re watching. We’d like to add two writers to our rotation so that everyone writes one column every four weeks or so. The writers can come with any angle, but of particular interest would be writers who could write from the perspective of a:
- soccer mom/dad taking kids to the games;
- member of a supporters group;
- supporter of a minor league team.
1 post per month, March-November.
- High school soccer writer
Writer wanted to write a regular column on the local high school scene during the season. It could be weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on the availability of the contributor. 1 post per week/month, September-December.
- Local clubs in big tournaments
Writer wanted to follow how local teams do in the U.S. Open Cup (including qualifiers) and other key tournaments. This could be anything from storied local amateur clubs like Phoenix SC and United German Hungarians on up to the semipro and professional teams. Posts as needed.
- Youth soccer writer
Writer wanted to write about youth soccer in the region. A regular column could be weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on the availability of the writer. 1 post per week/month.
- (insert idea here)
If you have an idea for something worth writing about on a regular basis that we don’t get to enough, let us know and offer up your services. Whether it’s women’s college soccer or the pickup scene, if it’s worth writing about, toss us a line.
So it is fitting that when I clicked on the link looking for a new web master the first time I got the page is offline and had to reload.
I always considered writing something. I’ll call it Wall Of Typos.
Yeah. The stability of the web site is the primary problem we’re trying to fix. The site has gotten huge. We’ve tried a few things, and none has sufficiently fixed the problem. So we’re looking for a good coder to come in and help.
The site has gotten huge. Because. It. Is. Awesome.
Hey, thanks, Osager. 🙂
Hey, Dan. Sent an email your way and it bounced back to me with the following message:

Is this something else for the webmaster to fix up? 😉
Just as a follow up, I tried again last night and it bounced back with the same message.
Heh. No. Someone bombed my email with some huge emails that clogged it up. I typically keep the inbox pretty small (to discipline myself to delete!), so I just expanded it. Can you resend? Thanks.
Sent. Cheers!
While I am sorely tempted to share my ramblings as a soccer mom, I don’t think even you guys could whip my writing into something readable…when you have need of a math teacher, let me know.
Will do!
What a great gig on a fun site. Would love to do it but good luck with the search.
Just wanted to let you know I sent an email your way as I have interest in a writing position. Thanks.
