Across the Atlantic, Philadelphia Union Home Grown Player Zachary Pfeffer once again showed his worth for the Hoffenheim U19s. Going into the second half drawn 1–1 with FC Augsburg, Pfeffer came out swinging, scoring the go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute. The lead would not hold for long, however, with Augsburg scoring again just two minutes later. The eventual draw would place Hoffenheim third in the league overall to end the season.

Speaking of coming out swinging, the Harrisburg City Islanders rolled over Antigua in Friday’s USL Pro matchup. Kicking off the scoring was none other the Swarthmore Alum and former Union man Morgan Langley, who scored in the 1st minute off a rebounded shot from teammate Sainey Touray.

Philadelphia native Dan Gargan earned his first assist of the season last Wednesday. Down 1–0 at the half to a visiting Toronto FC side, Gargan ignited the play that would lead to the equalizer early in the second half. One-timing a quick throw-in from Gargan, last year’s Golden Boot winner Chris Wondolowsk freed up rookie Adam Jahn, who slipped a left footed strike past the Toronto goalkeeper from 10 yards. Scoring again in the 81st minute, San Jose would go on to win the match 2–1.

Finally, Lancaster native and Montreal forward Andrew Wenger earned his second assist in as many games Saturday afternoon. Combining with teammate Maxim Tissot in the 80th minute, the duo worked quick to find a streaking Marco di Vaio just in front of the net to equalize the game at 2–2.  Thanks to some late game heroics from teammate Matteo Ferrari, the Impact would go on to win the game 3–2.

  1. I’m sure the German U19 league is pretty high quality for a U league and probably one of the better ones in the world.
What does it say about how good Pfeffer is that he can drop right into it and play so well?

  2. Will Pfeffer come back to the Union for the summer? I don’t remember te terms of his loan.

    • I am fairly certain I read at the time it was announced that it is a year-long loan that will last until the end of 2013.

      • I believe Hoffenheim will have a briefcase of Euros that will extend his loan indefinitely.
