Philadelphians Abroad: Convey shines, Finley debuts

Though the MLS season is now upon us, none of the Philadelphia-area players made any big splashes over the weekend. In fact, of the 15 locals on MLS rosters, only five saw any playing time, combining for 268 minutes. There are, however, a few items to note since the last time we checked in with the locals lads:

  • Of the 5 locals who were drafted to MLS teams this off season, only two players have made their way onto full team rosters, 9th overall SuperDraft pick Ryan Finley (Holland, PA) and 38th overall SuperDraft pick Greg Cochrane (Lumberton, NJ).  Finley earned 14 minutes in Columbus’s 3-0 win over Chivas U.S.A., while Cochrane made the 18 for Los Angeles.
  • Mike Seamon, the Rahway, NJ native formerly of the Seattle Sounders has signed with the USL Pro’s Pittsburgh Riverhounds for the 2013 season.
  • It appears former Union man and Southampton, PA native Ryan Richter’s trial with D.C. United did not earn him a spot with the squad. The Charleston Battery’s website seems to indicate that he will be returning to the USL Pro side for the second year in a row.
  • Hammonton, NJ’s own Tyler Bellamy and Allentown, PA native Jason Yeisley also appear set to return to their USL Pro clubs, the Rochester Rhinos and Richmond Kickers, respectively.
  • Finally, Lancaster, PA’s Richard Canouse and Abington, PA native and Philadelphia Union Home Grown Player Zach Pfeffer both got the start on Sunday for the Hoffenheim U19’s 1-0 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt.  This marks the forth straight start for both since the season resumed last month.

Glad to see Greg Cochrane made the 18 for the reigning champion LA Galaxy. Where you at Stephen Okai? Damani Richards?

  2. Starvatow says:

    “Russell Canouse” – not Richard.
