Pfeffer on his loan, USA v Honduras kickoff time confirmed, more morning news

Zach Pfeffer talks to Dave Zeitlin about his upcoming loan to Hoffenhem, where he will see playing time with the club’s reserve U-19 teams. Coul the loan turn into a permanent move? Pfeffer says, “That’s probably always an option with any player that goes to any team. If that situation arose, we’d deal with it then. But right now it’s a one-year loan. Anything else in the future, we’ll take that in stride and deal with it when it comes.”

MLS

Montreal Impact have apparently narrowed their search for a new head coach to two candidates.

Soccer America says, “The hiring of Dennis te Kloese as sporting president for both Chivas USA and Chivas de Guadalajara is the best news to come out of the MLS club since Jorge Vergara took control with the stated intention to return it to its roots as a Mexican-American club.”

Soccer America looks at the similarities between Andrew Farrell and Walker Zimmerman, considered to be the top two underclassmaen prospects for MLS.

Stumptown Footy has some suggestions on how MLS could become more “globally relevant.”

This just in from the Department of Terrible Ideas, former USWNT coach Tony DiCicco wants NWSL to allow four field player plus one goalkeeper substitution per team per game, as was allowed in the old WUSA.

US Soccer has confirmed that the USMNT’s opening game in the Hexagonal away against Honduras on Wednesday, Feb. 6 will kickoff at 4pm ET. I can confirm that I will be a nervous wreck.

Will afternoon heat be a factor in the Honduras game?

Grant Wahl tweets that US Soccer is becoming receptive to the idea of hosting World Cup qualifiers on temporary grass, opening the possibility of Portland or Seattle hosting one of the Hexagonal games. Union Dues looks at Seattle’s recent struggles to host a National Team game.

UEFA announced on Wednesday that it will appeal the punishments issued by its own disciplinary committee on Serbia for racial abuse during an October U-21 match against England. The move is in response to widespread criticism that the punishments were far too lenient.

The Guardian reports, “UK tax inspectors are investigating Goal.com, which bills itself as the ‘world’s largest football website,’ over its widespread use of unpaid interns.”

  1. Hosting a WC qualifier on temporary grass would be a huge mistake. The ball never bounces true on that stuff, but since USSF loves money, I could see this happening.

  2. I have to admit I like the Idea of a stadium in Brooklyn.

    1. Much easier to get to by public transportation
    2. I hate tearing up existing parkland.
