Union to play Sporting Kansas City in home opener

After opening on the road for each of their first three seasons, the Philadelphia Union will host Sporting Kansas City in the 2013 season opener at PPL Park on Saturday, March  2.

The Union will then be on the road for Colorado Rapids home opener on March 9.

According to an announcement on the league website, “Times and broadcast information for these games will be announced in the coming weeks as part of the complete 2013 regular-season schedule announcement.”

In 2012, the Union were 1-1-0 in regular season play against Kansas City, including a 4-0 win on June 23 for the team’s first win under then interim coach John Hackworth and a 2-1 loss on October 24. The Union fell 0-2 to Kansas City in the US Open Cup semifinal at PPL Park on July 11.

The Union lost 1-2 to Colorado in their 2012 home opener on March 18, after starting the season with a 3-1 road loss in Portland.
