KC wins primary US Open Cup final rights

Sporting Kansas City won primary rights to host the US Open Cup final in August.

The U.S. Soccer Federation announced the pairings Friday after KC submitted the top bid in a sealed bid process.

If KC wins Wednesday’s semifinal match against Philadelphia Union, KC would host the final on Aug. 7 or Aug. 8, regardless of who wins the other semifinal between Seattle and Chivas USA.

If KC loses to the Union and Seattle wins in the semifinals, the Union would travel to Seattle for the final.

If the Union and Chivas win, the Union would host the semifinal.

Essentially, the Union had the third best bid of the four.

Philadelphia is seeking its first ever trophy in its three-year existence.

The Union’s semifinals match against Kansas City is this Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
