Philadelphians Abroad: Hertzog, Hip-Hoppenot

Those looking forward to seeing Reading native Corey Hertzog retake the field for New York will have to wait a little longer.  Last week, New York agreed to extend Hertzog’s loan to Wilmington until the end of the USL Pro season.  Originally loaned for a one-month stint, Hertzog will now appear in the Hammerhead kit at least until August 18 when Wilmington plays its last regular season game.  The move instantly paid off, with Hertzog adding two to the tally in the Hammerheads’ 4-2 drubbing of the Los Angeles Blues.

From the Department of In Case You Missed It,  Antoine Hoppenot’s game play against Kansas City got a little more attention than expected. From a game in which Hoppenot’s form would earn him an MLS Team of the Week honorable mention, the kid from Princeton would also claim a more dubious distinction: That of “NOT Goal of the Week.” In his semi-regular, semi-entertaining feature, MLS “analyst” Simon Borg pokes fun at the Hoppenot goal attempt, which saw what should have been a simple chip sailing over the cross bar. Never mind that Hoppenot would go on to get it right only minutes later. Borg also tries his hand at the nickname game, laughingly dubbing the rookie “Hip-Hoppenot.”  After an attempt like that, you start to think that maybe Borg just needs to find himself a little help.

Shall I suggest Hip Hop Anonymous?

“Hip? Hip Hop? Hip Hop Anonymous?” Well deployed.

  2. Borg’s latest “column” blasts Spain for poor sportsmanship for not taking off a player voluntarily after Italy went down a man. Seriously. Not making this up.

His draft ratings each year are similarly a joke and guys who he has rated highly often end up going undrafted and never playing in the league.

He is a first class idiot.

    • he is a buffoon of the highest order. You remember his comment about women and the MLS. classic example of a guy who finds himself too clever and never tires of his own voice. I don’t understand how anyone at MLS soccer stands him.

      • Eli Pearlman-Storch says:

Seriously. at a certain point how is he not doing more harm than good? CUT TIES MLS!

  3. Just about everything Simon “the” Borg says is instantly forgettable, to me at least. But something i will NEVER forget is Hoppenot’s goal at the Sporting KC game, right in front of me and my friend in Section 103! 🙂

  4. Garret good point!!!
