Witkowski signs with the Union?

Philipakos tweeted this photo with his announcement that Witkowski had signed.

According to a tweet by agent Ted Philipakos, Supplemental Draft pick Krystian Witkowski has signed with the Philadelphia Union.

Don’t bother clicking on the link to the tweet, though. It has been taken down from Twitter.

When asked for confirmation of the signing, a Union spokesperson told PSP that they were unable to comment.

Is this simply a case of an excited player agent making an announcement before the Union itself was prepared to make their own announcement? Time will tell.

The Union selected Witkowski with their second pick of the 2012 Supplemental Draft.

Witkowski, a three-time NSCAA All-Region and All-MAAC honoree, was the first player from Marist to be drafted into MLS. In his four years at Marist he recorded scored 21 goals and 12 assists. Prior to playing for Marist, Witkowski featured for the U-18 Polish national team.

Peter Nowak said on Tuesday, “The rookies are doing very well. I believe we’re going to keep all five of them.” He added, “We’ll see how they develop, but they’re good guys, they work hard in training and they’re good soccer players.”

Photos on the Union’s Facebook page show Witkowski in action in Wednesday’s 5-0 win over University of Central Florida.

  1. Is it me or is his face weird?

  2. What’s weird is that the agent’s tweet is gone! ::GASP::

  3. Another case of MLS premature tweet-jaculation.
